Da Hopper a Warhol
January 21st - June 3rd, 2012
The exhibition of San Marino, about twenty-five works, seems to be the first occasion in which, with famous names, the story of twentieth-century American painting is told throughout the flow of the last century.
All the important moments are taken into consideration, from the realism of Edward Hopper, on the one hand and Thomas Hart Benton on the other, until the so particular experience Giorgia O'Keeffe.
The unforgettable “American Abstraction” has taken place in this first phase.
All the most famous names are represented, from the one of Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline and Willem de Kooning, with great paintings of the fifties, their golden period.
Do not miss a visit around the work of the two most high representatives of Pop Art, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, beginning with a famous version of the first one, of Jacqueline Kennedy (Jackie, 1964)..
The show then closes with a tribute to the most extraordinary American painter who reconnects to the realism of Hopper. This is Andrew Wyeth, whose works are still the quintessential vision of heroic painting.
The last image is a great picture of Keith Haring, one of the most celebrated American artists of the last decades.
